Community Nursery and Fruit Tree Initiative
CICTRANS is developing a community nursery initiative to support climate-smart agriculture, livelihood diversification, environmental restoration, and household resilience.
Supporting resilient agriculture and community livelihoods.
The proposed initiative will establish and manage nursery production of plantain plantlets and selected fruit trees for distribution, demonstration, and community-based enterprise development.
Proposed scale
10,000 plantain plantlets and 1,000 fruit trees, including citrus, grafted pear, and bush mango.
Proposed locations
Potential nursery sites have been identified in Tancha and Fiango in Kumba, and Mile 15 in Buea.
Intended outcomes
Improve access to quality planting material, support food security and household income, and encourage diversified and climate-resilient agricultural production.
Current next steps
A detailed cost estimate, implementation plan, beneficiary approach, timeline, and partnership strategy are under preparation.
Project status: This initiative is proposed and under development. The production figures represent targets, not completed outputs.
Transforming Cocoa Landscapes: From Grassroots Nursery to Global Markets
Empowering smallholder farmers, restoring aging plantations, and safeguarding Cameroon’s tropical forests.
Across Cameroon’s Southwest Region, smallholder farmers face a critical dilemma: aging cocoa plantations and declining soil fertility are driving down yields year after year. To survive, many producers clear virgin tropical forests in search of fertile land, accelerating deforestation and climate vulnerability.
CICTRANS is reversing this trend starting at the root. Located in Kumba, our flagship Multipurpose Nursery Project serves as an agricultural innovation hub designed to revitalize existing farms, protect biodiversity, and lift rural communities out of poverty sustainably.
